When it comes to hybrid turf for intensive recreational use, the durability of natural grass is often questioned.

And that's why we've optimized the system features, installation method and maintenance. The POWERgrass system is being studied by Sport England on the pitches installed in 2017 at the Bisham Abbey National Center and Regent's Park in central London to see if it is a valid alternative to synthetic grass and the answer is positive. In the UK, rubber from post-use tires has been banned from artificial pitches from August 2022, giving six years to remove it from existing pitches, while in Europe it is being voted on by member countries, so there is a need for an effective alternative, as the report highlights for the first four years examined.

Many invest in an artificial turf playing field because it is possible to train 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In reality, the requirement of a playing field rarely exceeds a usability of 1000 hours of play per year for a squad of 25 players. This is because, during the day, most children are at school and adults at work; in fact, in most cases, the fields are used after 4pm and until 8pm. One day a week the workers close the structure for the weekly rest and, between holidays and vacations, games are played for approximately 40 weeks a year.

The demand that POWERgrass intends to satisfy is that of usability of up to 1300 hours of play on natural grass, which satisfies the real needs of 90% of football clubs. Natural grass can withstand a high number of hours of play during the growing season, because the lawn renews itself as it grows, but the same is not true in winter. During the vegetation period, POWERgrass natural grass withstands up to 7 hours of play per day without suffering particular damage, but it is advisable to reduce activity during the winter period, when the natural grass is dormant, if you want to maintain a high density of the turf even in winter. In any case, unlike other hybrid systems, the fibers are present in large quantities, all protruding onto the surface, which can guarantee a playable surface even if the natural grass loses its aerial part, because the fibers and roots anchored to the support keep the surface stable.

Please note: POWERgrass attenuates thermal shock and protects the roots, thanks to its support and increased biological activity, but playing on frozen ground must be avoided to avoid causing significant damage to the lawn and to preserve the health of the players.

Experience in over 30 installations confirms that in POWERgrass the clodsof the natural grass do not rise, as happens in other reinforced systems, thanks to the strong anchoring of the roots to the innovative backing and the presence of a large number of fibers on the surface. When the game is intensive and the grass does not grow to recover the playing surface it remains flat and it is possible to play on the artificial fibers present in large quantities on the surface while the roots guarantee stability, traction and cushioning, until the next vegetative growth in spring. By following the teachings of POWERgrass technicians, through easy but constant maintenance, it is possible to obtain a high quality of natural grass during the growing season without risking suspending a match in winter as long as the pitch is kept clean on a weekly basis.
